Invitation to provide feedback for the review of the National Blood Authority’s clinical practice guidelines

The National Blood Authority (NBA) funds and manages the development of evidence‑based guidelines to guide healthcare professionals in making clinical decisions for their patients.

The NBA is reviewing the Patient Blood Management (PBM) guidelines and the Guideline for the prophylactic use of Rh D immunoglobulin in pregnancy care, and we are seeking feedback from your members to assist with the update and prioritisation of the research questions that underpin them.

We kindly ask you to forward the attached survey and supporting documents to your members for completion asking them to please provide as much detail on the relevant guideline/s as possible noting we are seeking feedback on:

·        guidance that should be removed from the existing guidelines

·        topics that are not currently addressed in the guidelines or in the list of proposed research questions that should be investigated

·        the proposed research questions and associated PICO criteria that will underpin the systematic reviews

·        research questions / topics that should be prioritised.

To view the current guidelines, please use the links provided below:

It would be appreciated if completed surveys could be returned by 13 September 2024 to guidelines@blood.gov.au.

Once the survey is closed, the NBA will collate the responses for consideration by a multidisciplinary clinical reference group.

The NBA is currently finalising the governance structure for the review and update of the guidelines. An expert group comprising representatives from relevant clinical colleges and societies will be established to enable the clinical community to contribute to the review and update process. Further information will be provided shortly.

Should you have any questions about the survey please contact Donna Cassoni at guidelines@blood.gov.au.

We appreciate your members taking the time to provide this valuable feedback.
