The development, implementation, and evaluation of a nationwide online forensic nursing education program for interpersonal violence related presentations in emergency care settings.
This project is for submission for Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame Australia (School of Nursing and Midwifery).
Overview of Project
This project consisted of four phases as displayed below.
Phase one included surveys with stakeholders, including both health care staff and police members to determine what information would be most useful for frontline staff caring for patients affected by violence. This information has been incorporated into the development of an education program that can assist nurses, and underwent an expert review as a part of phase two.
Phase three was completed in 2022 and included the distribution of an education program with a pre- post- and longitudinal survey. These surveys aimed to examine the understanding and confidence when caring for patients who are impacted by interpersonal violence when they present to an emergency care setting. Findings showed awareness of forensic implications and how communication, information sharing, and multidisciplinary responses can be improved.
