Invitation to participate in research investigating the preparation and experience of nurses in educator roles based in
emergency care settings
Dear Emergency Nurse Educators,
Your role is vital in shaping nursing competencies and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care. As leaders, you engage in research, quality improvement, curriculum design, and mentorship. Yet, little is known about the preparation and experiences of educators specifically in Australian emergency care settings. This national study—the first of its kind—is designed to identify the gaps, challenges, and enablers required for developing stronger career and
professional development pathways and policy.
Led by emergency nursing academics Dr Wayne Varndell, Mrs Carrie Janerka, and Mrs Jane Vickery, we are inviting nurses in educator roles who work in / support nurses based in emergency care settings, to participate in a brief 20 minute survey. We aim to understand your context of practice, workload and job satisfaction. For this study, an ‘educator role’ refers to any nurse employed to design, deliver, or support education in an emergency clinical environment.
This study has been approved by the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Human Research and Ethics Committee (2025/ETH02235). Participation is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential. Following the survey, you will have the option to express interest in a follow-up interview in early 2026.
To participate, please copy the web address https://bit.ly/AusEduSurvey into your browser, or scan the QR code below. We encourage you to share this invitation with your nurse educator colleagues and thank you for your participation. The survey will close on Sunday 31st January 2026
Kind regards,
